For a small island, Lanzarote is packed with unique attractions that are well worth exploring during a holiday. As the most easterly Canary Island, tourists have long been drawn to visit this volcanic outcrop due to its incredible climate.

But leaving the weather to one side, the island has developed numerous sites of interest for visitors to take in. Of these, there are seven Centres of Art and Culture, as they are known – all of which were designed by leading Lanzarote artist César Manrique.

Then there is also a range of sites that appeal more specifically to children, a reflection of the island’s popularity with families as a holiday destination. Not to mention more specialist activities that encompasses a huge variety of sports and attracts fitness enthusiasts all year round.

The Centres of Art and Culture all came about as a result of Manrique’s desire to steer the island in a different direction from other tourist resort. Each centre focuses on one aspect of Lanzarote’s history and illustrates the events that have shaped earlier residents experience of life here.

For instance, farming was once the mainstay for most local families, despite the harsh conditions, such as low rainfall, that prevailed. The Monumento al Campesino is the museum dedicated to their survival and ingenuity.

Thanks to the well developed tourist infrastructure that now exists most holidaymakers can have little idea of the extreme poverty suffered by many former residents. Which is understandable for guests staying in one of the many holiday villas in Lanzarote with all the home comforts easily within reach.

Not only was it difficult to put food on the table, but during the eighteenth century the world’s longest volcanic eruptions caused disruption and led many locals to leave the island altogether. The attraction at the Timanfaya National Park allows visitors to see the aftermath of this devastating event.

Usually the best way to get round the island and see the sights is via a hire car. Lanzarote car hire is amongst the cheapest to be found in Europe and is often the most convenient way to be mobile during a holiday here.

With so much to see and do, many visitors end up returning for more holidays in Lanzarote a second and third time. Especially those who get bitten by the Manrique bug and want to visit each of the attractions he devised for his beloved Lanzarote.

When people talk about travelling in America, I usually think that they are prone to exaggeration. People will tell you that everything is just bigger and better in the states, the food tastes better, the cars are more luxurious, the views are more spectacular. I have always been the kind of guy that thinks that what he can’t find in his own good land, can’t be that great. However, I don’t like to be a stuck in the mud, so I am always open to persuasion, at least on the outside anyway.

Thanks to my seemingly experimental disposition, I let my wife persuade me that we should take a holiday in Florida. I tried to tell her that the price of travelling over there would be too high, but I have to say that I was wrong on that first count. We managed to find some very reasonable Florida holiday packages on the internet. I had never really been a big fan of the internet but I have to say that those tickets were as cheap as they come. We managed to book ourselves a two week stay in a lovely sounding hotel right in the middle of Florida, and I have to say that I even found myself getting a little bit excited, despite myself.

What a shock I was in for! I have to say that that place was one of the most incredible places I had ever been! Everywhere you looked there was something beautiful. Everywhere you looked there was someone offering you a drink! The beds were so sumptuous and comfortable I didn’t want to get up in the morning! And the food? The food was out of this world! All I can say it thank god we found those package holidays to florida
